Winter resources

As the harvest season draws to a close, we find that most local Farmers Markets and many farm stands have closed for the year. But we eaters still want to support our local food producers. I always dread the moment when I realize that the bounty that has stuffed my refrigerator all summer long, has been consumed, and I face the prospect of buying vegetables at the supermarket. Of course we all know that the Skagit Valley Food Co-Op offers us fresh, organic food, but there are also many other options that allow us to continue to buy more directly from the farmers and food producers around us.

Below, I will indicate where local foods can be purchased AFTER OCTOBER 31st. This list is a work in progress. Please send me corrections, additions and updates. If you want us to know where and how to buy your local product, please write to me and keep me updated with any new information. I apologize for mistakes and omissions. There is very little here for Whidbey Island, or for the Stanwood/Camano area. Please help me expand this list to help all of us eat locally through the winter.

I recently discovered the website for Local Harvest, www.localharvest.org, which includes lots of information about local producers throughout the US, including our region. Please let me know what you learn about the sources listed there, that I haven't yet included in our list. Thank you. I keep learning more, every day.
