This week -starting today- the Senate will debate a new 2013 Farm Bill, and we need you to call Senators Murray and Cantwell and leave a message asking for them to advocate for a better farm bill:

1. •that helps feed those in need
   

2. •puts control of plant seeds back into our hands, not Monsanto's hands
   

3. •protects our natural resources, and
   

4. •helps new farmers get started

1. Help Stop Hunger & Strengthen our local food system: Support the Gillibrand Amendment: The Senate Ag Committee proposal included a $4.1 Billion cut to SNAP funds. Gillibrand's amendment will restore SNAP funding to existing levels.

2. Help Support Local Control of our Food System: Support the Tester Amendment which put seeds back in the public domain, and out of Monsanto's control.

3. Help Protect our Environment: Support the Leahy & Cowan Amendment to even the playing field for organic farmers using conservation practices (EQIP).

4. Help new farmers get started: Support the Casey & Harkin Amendment authorizing a loan program for beginning and military veteran farmers.
